Welcome to my Gage MS home page! I am Gage Middle School's Technology Resource Teacher (TRT). I teach the Media Arts classes on A track. 

The following is a work in progress - the TRT job description:

  1. Primary Functions
    1. The Technology Resource Teacher serves as resource person to faculty, students and parents in assisting with the coordination, implementation and integration of technology into all curricular areas; 
    2. the Technology Resource Teacher also administers all activities of the Gage Middle School Technology Center, which exists to serve as a resource for curriculum enriching activities to enhance and improve student achievement, and administers the Gage instructional network.

  2. Responsible To: Principal, Assistant Principal overseeing the Title I programs and Title I Coordinator.

  3. Responsibilities: The Technology Resource Teacher performs the following duties as necessary and designated by the Principal, District 6 ITAFs, Central District ITAFs and technology directives:
    1. Administration of day to day and long term operations of the Gage Middle School Technology Center including:
      1. defining and overseeing responsibilities of paraprofessionals assigned to Technology Center Labs and infrastructure support;
      2. regular assessment of paraprofessionals and student service workers;
      3. maintenance and upgrading of all instructional hardware;
      4. refine and maintain guidelines for use of student service workers;
      5. train, supervise and provide meaningful, academic and technical activity to student service workers;
      6. establish and/or maintain service agreements;
      7.  establish and/or maintain relationships with hardware and software vendors;
      8. scheduling of teachers into Technology Center labs through open sign-ups, P.A. and bulletin announcements, and personal teacher contacts;
      9. maintaining and updating internet presence on the Educational Networks hosted school web site and as linked to the Gage Middle School web site,
      10. maintaining contact with Gage web site master;
      11. publish a semesterly Technology Update newsletter and updates for faculty;
      12. initiate and follow through on facility maintenance and repairs including custodial, electrical, telecommunications and internet services;
      13. maintain school site software inventory and compliance;
      14. seek and evaluate current and relevant software according to LAUSD and state standards for software acquisition and use;
      15. maintain a weekly online and print calendar and log of activities;

    2. Curricular and subject area responsibilities including:
      1. assisting visiting teachers in completing the Technology Center Planning Sheet to ensure curriculum alignment, compliance with subject area standards, appropriate use of technology, and modes of assessment;
      2. assisting in the development and updating of the site Technology Use Plan;
      3. developing, implementing and refining school site technology competencies until state, district or cluster competencies are adopted;
      4. assisting in the alignment of computer class electives with project-based student assignments;
      5. meet periodically with Title I Coordinator to assess, plan and develop strategies to better serve Title I students in Language Arts and Mathematics;
      6. align computer lab based lessons with District learning standards;
      7. assist in the design and implementation of staff development for teachers and paraprofessionals based on needs assessments identified in the Program Quality Review;
      8. design, refine, align and implement curriculum for Technology Service and Media Arts classes

  4. Network Administration of the Gage instructional computer network/intranet:
    1. server configuration and maintenance
    2. adding and removing workgroups and workstations
    3. managing Workgroup Manager administration and security software including custom configurations
    4. troubleshooting
    5. client configuration and maintenance
    6. user password and account management

  5. Technology support responsibilities to faculty and students including:
    1. assisting faculty in appropriate individual and academic team use of technology;
    2. assist in maintenance and repair of Title I hardware at school site;
    3. report maintenance needs located outside of Technology Center to Title I office as necessary

  6. Other Responsibilities:
    1.  perform miscelaneous duties assigned by administrators;
    2. attend district, cluster and school site meetings such as the District 6 Technology Cadre, Instructional Technology Commission (ITC), IMaST monthly triad meetings, etc.
    3. Participate in district and county events such as InfoTech and Video Voice

  7. Qualifications
    1. Education and Experience
      1. Must have permanent employee status;
      2. an earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard from an accredited college of university is desirable;
      3. working knowledge of computer hardware and software, instructional and administrative;
      4. working knowledge of Macintosh OS 9 and OS X 10.6, Windows 98, NT4, ME, XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Home Editions operating systems.
      5. High level of proficiency with Apple Macintosh OS X server software and hardware including:
        1. Workgroup Manager
        2. Server Tools, Server Adminstration
        3. working familiarity with UNIX operating systems;
        4. familiarity with MS-DOS operating system;
        5. understanding of networking fundamentals.

  8. Professional Development
    1. Continuing professional growth appropriate for education at the middle school level;
    2. attend local and regional conferences relating to technology and education;
    3. understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of the cultural and ethnic groups in the school community;
    4. knowledge of federal, state and district guidelines governing the proper use of funds for Compensatory Education students;
    5. facility in oral, written and electronic communication.
