Project #1  Order of Operations   DUE:  FRIDAY JULY 23

You are to create a tri-fold brochure about the order of operations.  You have a choice of completing the project on paper or electronically.  If you choose to complete it on paper, all illustrations must be hand-drawn.  DO NOT PRINT AND GLUE PICTURES TO YOUR PROJECT.  If you choose to submit it electronically, download the template from below.  Electronic projects must be emailed to “ebillett@lausd.net” before 3:30 pm on the due date.  Here is what to include in your brochure:

Inside

1.     List the steps in the order of operations

2.     Write a numerical expression to be evaluated using the order of operations containing at least three operations and at least one set of parentheses

3.     Solve the expression. SHOW ALL YOUR WORK

4.     Explain in words how one would solve your expression using the order of operations

Back :                  Write a 5-sentence reflection about this project

Grading

List the steps in the Order of Operations correctly    5 points

The expression has at last three operations and one set of parentheses 5 points

Solution is correct with ALL work shown 5 points

Explanation is complete and correct  5 points

Reflection is 5 sentences long and insightful 5 points

At least one appropriate illustration is included 2 points

Work is neat, clean and complete  3 points

Total:   30 Points
